Editorial log

What’s new

A record of the work done on this site: pages added, articles rewritten, features built. Every entry has a date and points at the thing that changed. It is the short answer to the question of whether anyone is still minding the place.

2026

  • Rewritten

Ten state pages got an editorial note of their own

Each of the ten state pages now says what its four figures show and what they do not, written per state rather than from a template.

  • New page

    The monthly debt report

A written account of the month just closed: what the debt did, what it cost, and what to watch next. First edition covers September 2026.

  • New feature

Review dates and a revision log on every explainer

Each article now shows when it was last reviewed, and what changed in that version.

  • Rewritten

All nine explainers rewritten and expanded

Each one is now three to four times longer, with the sections a reader actually asks for, and a visible note on what changed.

  • New page

    Debt limit tracker

The statutory ceiling, the debt subject to it and the room left, updated every business day.

  • New page

    Corrections log

Every change to a published item, shown with the before and after text and the reason.

  • New feature

APA, MLA and Chicago formats under every explainer and every glossary entry, generated from the page itself.

  • New page

Eight glossary entries became pages of their own

Average interest rate, rollover, the Treasury General Account, the federal funds rate, bid-to-cover, marketable debt, the CBO and the Monthly Treasury Statement.

  • New page

    US debt by year

Every fiscal year since 1790, with the yearly change and the debt as a share of the economy.

  • Rewritten

Editorial notes on the data pages

A short hand-written note under the numbers on nine pages, saying what they show and when a person last read them.

  • Rewritten

The site has a named author

Articles are written and reviewed by Roman & Team, and say so. The same name carries the structured data.

  • New page

    Twelve calculators

Mortgage, car loan, savings, inflation, a rate shock and your share of the debt, all running in the browser.

  • New page

    News and data releases

Auction results, the monthly deficit and Fed decisions, each generated from an official source with a link to it.

  • New page

The Fed section and the state pages

The balance sheet, policy rate, yield curve and projections, plus federal money in and out of each state.

  • New feature

    The glossary

One hundred terms, each defined in a sentence and linked wherever it appears.

  • New page

    The site goes live

The live debt clock, per-person figures, interest, debt to GDP and the printable one-pager.

Three different logs, on purpose

News is what the government published: auction results, the monthly deficit, Fed decisions. It is generated from official sources and it is not editorial work.

Corrections is mistakes: a published item that was wrong and was fixed, shown with the before and after.

This page is neither. It is the work done on the site itself, and it exists because “continuously maintained” is a claim that deserves a record rather than a sentence in the footer.
